Are high expectations keeping you stuck?

They can be a blessing and a curse.

High expectations.

On the one hand, they can push you to raise the bar and expect more from yourself.

On the other hand, they can be crippling and halt your progress.

If you’re not careful, high expectations can turn into outsized and unrealistic expectations that raise the stakes too much. Suddenly, they feel out of reach and risky.

I recently realized this was happening to me with my new YouTube channel.

My expectations became too high, and I kept putting it off. That is, until last week when I acknowledged I was over-complicating content and asked myself what this would look like if it were easy and fun.

If you are feeling stuck on a goal or project, check in on your expectations. Are they:

  • too low (not enough to push you)
  • just right (realistic and getting the best out of you)
  • too high (stakes are too high and feel risky)

You can also reflect on expectations through the lens of the Momentum Formula.

Method

Are you expecting to have the perfect plan and every detail mapped out before you take any action?

If yes, what’s a “good enough” plan that still moves you forward?

Mode

Do you have visions of the ideal state or setting when everything feels just right in order to take action?

If yes, what would happen if you make one change that suits you and just test that out first?

Mindset

Are you worried lowering your expectations (even a little) means you don’t care enough about your goal?

What if adjusting your expectations is actually a sign you care enough to take imperfect action? That you can make gradual improvements after you get started based on your experience.

It’s here…

My new channel is live and the first video is posted!

I explain The Momentum Formula and walk through a common example (exercising regularly). I also share a few important points about the framework at the end based on feedback I heard after the webinars.

Will you help me?

Starting a new channel means starting at zero subscribers.

It would mean a lot if you would subscribe to my channel.

And if you find the Momentum Formula helpful, please consider sharing the video with a friend.

Cheers,

Cat

Do you remember when Marie Kondo became a household name and suddenly people everywhere were holding a frying pan asking themselves if it brings joy? I know I do. I got about halfway through the book before I realized how dangerous it was to pull everything out of storage with the intention to go through each one. I would inevitably tire myself out early into the process and stop, leaving a pile of things that would haunt me for weeks. Um, okay Cat, why are you sharing this?? Despite the...
